Vogel Rivier

In 2016, the FYNBOS TRUST was able to acquire the VOGEL RIVIER farm to the west of De Hoop Nature Reserve. De Hoop, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 and is the largest coastal  Protected Area at 340 km2, is supplemented by our land by 25 km2, the border between the two areas being formed by the Salt River and the huge shallow water lagoon also known as De Hoop Vlei. Dozens of pelicans, hundreds of flamingos and an abundance of other water bird species live here. The karst hills are covered by a sparse but very species-rich flora, limestone caves provide shelter for leopards and rare eagles regularly breed on the cliffs. Shy Cape Mountain zebras roam the inaccessible valleys and ridges.
